THE AOH of ATLANTA

The Tara Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians was formed in 1997 with the goal of bringing together Irish Americans to promote the Irish culture in Atlanta. The group focuses on promoting a positive image of Irish Americans  through involvement in various charitable and civic organizations such as Project Saint Patrick, sponsorship of Theatre Gael, and Clan NA nGael an Atlanta Gaelic Football Club.

This Irish Catholic Organization have sponsored many events in Atlanta, including a lecture during March of 2000 on the Northern Ireland Peace Process with the W. B. Yeats Foundation at Emory University. The Keynote speaker, Gerry Adams, recognized the Tara Division for sponsoring him to Atlanta and the National office for their involvement in Irish issues.

The AOH also involve themselves in lobbying politicians, government agencies, and corporations for the advancement of Irish America and our brethren in Northern Ireland.  One such example was the AOH's involvement in getting the Civil Rights Bill of Northern Ireland signed, known as "The McBride Principles".

  Purpose of the Ancient Order of Hibernian

The primary purposes of the Organization are briefly set forth in the preamble to its National Constitution.

  • To promote friendship, unity and Christian Charity among its members.
  • To uphold and sustain loyalty to the government of the United States of America by the members of this organization living here in America, or whatever government under which its members may be citizens.
  • To aid and advance by all legitimate means, the aspirations and endeavors of the Irish people to complete and absolute independence.
  • To foster the ideals and cultivate the history and traditions of the Irish race throughout the world.
